Michael Rock
Founding Partner and Creative Director
Michael Rock is a founding partner and Creative Director at 2x4, and Director of the Graphic Architecture Project at the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation. At 2x4, he leads a wide range of projects for Nike, MTV, Prada, Vitra, Harvard and CCTV. Before starting 2x4, he was co-founder of information incorporated in Boston. From 1984–91 he was Adjunct Professor of Graphic Design at the Rhode Island School of Design, and since 1991 he has been a member of the design faculty at the Yale School of Art, where he holds the rank of Adjunct Professor. In addition, he was a fellow at the Jan Van Eyck Akademie in Maastricht, The Netherlands, and a contributing editor and graphic design journalist at I.D. Magazine in New York. His writing on design has appeared in publications worldwide. He holds an A.B. in Humanities from Union College and a M.F.A from the Rhode Island School of Design. He is the recipient of the 1999/2000 Rome Prize in Design from the American Academy in Rome and currently serves on the board of the Academy.
Susan Sellers
Founding Partner and Creative Director
Susan Sellers is a founding partner and Creative Director at 2x4 and Senior Critic at Yale University School of Art. At 2x4, she leads diverse projects from large-scale identity and branding projects to exhibition and set design for major cultural institutions nationwide. Recent projects include brand repositioning and exhibition design for cultural institutions such as the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the Guggenheim, and the Storm King Arts Center, communications strategy for the New York University Masterplan, and brand identity for Arper, a contemporary furniture manufacturer based in Treviso, Italy. She has been a visiting design critic at the Rhode Island School of Design, Ohio State University School of Architecture, University of Texas at Austin, SCI-ARC and the Scuola Politecnica di Design in Milan. Her articles have appeared in a number of journals including Eye, Design Issues and Visible Language. She has held positions in several studios including Total Design and UNA in Amsterdam. Sellers holds a B.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design and an M.A. in American Studies from Yale University.
Georgianna Stout
Founding Partner and Creative Director
Georgianna Stout is founding partner and Creative Director at 2x4. She leads diverse projects, from extensive retail and packaging projects to large-scale identity, exhibition and environmental graphics/wayfinding programs. She has recently completed a series of exhibition designs for the Cooper Hewitt Museum, including digital components. She was Creative Director for a branding, identity, retail and environmental program for an exhibition of Nike's 100 design innovations which was exhibited in Beijing China during the summer Olympics. She also produced and directed a series of episodes of the
"How-to Show" for MTV Networks that featured digital music. Stout continues to lead retail and packaging projects, including skincare line Malin+Goetz. She has been a visiting design critic at Rhode Island School of Design and Yale University School of Art. She also collaborates with her husband, designer David Weeks, in his design studio, David Weeks Studio. Prior to founding 2x4, Stout worked at Bethany Johns Design producing publications and identity programs for arts organizations and other cultural institutions. Stout holds a B.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design.
