Guggenheim Las Vegas

In 2001 OMA unveiled a new outpost for the Guggenheim Museum in Las Vegas — a small masterpiece gallery and large temporary exhibition space — inside the Venetian Casino and Resort. The Guggenheim Hermitage featured rotating masterworks from the collections of the Guggenheim and Hermitage Museum and was designed as a Corten steel box inserted into the front wall of the casino. Our design included large-scale letters rusted into the steel, providing a venue for more informal graphics, and magnetic signage that adhered to the steel walls.

The seven-story Guggenheim Las Vegas, was designed to accommodate traveling exhibitions such as The Art of the Motorcycle. Located in the casino itself, the entrance was announced by 17-foot tall aluminum letters extruded from the ceiling. The signage program included monumental graphics in the architectural space, etched glass, murals, ticket offices, entry signs, changing program displays, donor recognition and more.
