2x4 worked closely with Donda to realize Kanye West's vision of an innovative seven-screen cinematic experience. The experience was designed alongside the development and production of "Cruel Summer", West's new short film shot entirely on site in Doha, Qatar.

2x4 and Donda worked hand-in-hand defining the nature of the space, the site in Cannes and the approach to the multiscreen narrative. In collaboration with Donda, OMA New York then translated this concept into a fully-realized architectural experience, with 2x4 continuing to handle the production and event design in coordination with Cannes based production team Ar'Scene. The final form, a 70ft-tall pyramid enclosing a 200-seat screening room, is raised from the waterfront site affording dramatic views of the Mediterranean, Cannes, and the surrounding mountains through the base of the theater.

"For me, the seven screen experience perfectly mirrors Kanye's very architectural approach to building music," explains 2x4 partner in charge of the project Michael Rock. "The pavilion allows him to build his complex, richly layered narratives out of innumerable fragments of sound and image."

Cruel Summer debuted at the 65th Cannes Film Festival on May 23rd. It will be presented in New York this summer and at the Doha Tribeca Film Festival on November 19th. More pictures of the event can been seen at the New York Times and on Dezeen.
