We have an immediate opening for a full-time senior project manager with experience managing complex, multidisciplinary design projects from planning and contracting through delivery. This position is on-site in New York City.
The senior project manager is an experienced hands-on professional with expertise working across a broad range of projects. Flexibility is key to this role: the senior project manager may work on the front line managing both the client and team on medium and large-scale projects, or work with a client engagement director overseeing multiple projects linked to a major client account. The senior project manager has an appreciation of and interest in managing both the complex and mundane. Solid consulting and client management skills are key, along with a deep command of project management fundamentals, and understanding of the studio’s service offerings. The role requires an ability to conceptualize and develop project plans, manage team dynamics and resources, liaise with clients day to day; experience sourcing, contracting and managing third-party support. The senior project manager must have firm control of the project’s P&L, an ability to problem solve and effectively manage the change control process. Along with experience in design or agency services, the senior project manager brings some degree of specialization in areas such as architecture, media production, or digital product development to complement the client and project management team.
Responsibilities:
- Studio leadership: Effectively communicates 2x4’s capabilities and processes across practice areas, and understands their applicability to planning and management with teams; exercises creativity, professionalism, and respect for the project’s outcome
- Client + project management: As the day-to-day client liaison, manages project lifecycle from planning and contracting through initiation to delivery; maintains schedule; manages budget and change requests, team resourcing, deliverables submission, and other logistics, while effectively communicating between client and team; manages sourcing, bidding, and production with third-party vendors, freelancers, or consultants; supports business development by leading or managing complex proposals and pitches when needed
- Business management: Maintains best practice project management and finance processes including revenue forecasting; ensures that team resources are planned and well utilized; works with the project management team to identify new ways to optimize studio processes
- Collaboration: Effectively collaborates with internal teams and groups; supports onboarding, training, and mentoring of junior project management staff
Qualifications:
- 6-8+ years of relevant work in project management at an agency, creative or digital services, or design firm
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant training/experience
- Demonstrated experience with client-facing management of projects with budgets up to $1.5M
- Expertise with standard project management processes and tools; formal training or certifications a plus
- Proactive, self-disciplined and professional attitude; at ease in a fast-paced work environment; excellent interpersonal skills and enthusiasm about collaborating with others
- Excellent verbal, visual and written communication skills with ability to speak with confidence to clients and internal teams
