Strategy Director

2x4 is an agency whose work focuses on brand strategy for cultural and commercial clients who value the power of design. We identify and clarify core institutional values and translate them into innovative, experiential, participatory and dynamic ways to engage audiences worldwide. Our intellectual and creative conviction is that thoughtful design can make an essential contribution to every level of cultural discourse.

We work on a wide range of cultural and commercial projects, from Fortune 500 companies, museums, nonprofits, to large scale architecture projects, often in tandem. The studio is a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment that demands a high degree of adaptability and agility. 2x4 is seeking a Strategy Director to lead the team and practice with its founding partners and respective leads in branding, interactive, environmental, and architecture design.

What you’ll do:

As Strategy Director, you’ll take ownership in defining the role of the discipline, leading the charge to become a more influential partner to our clients through the quality of our ideas and creative work.

Day to day, you’ll:

  • Apply your expertise in brand strategy to new contexts, methodologies, and frameworks
  • Have a highly entrepreneurial mindset and comfort with ambiguity, with ability to drive change and impact in area with limited precedent
  • Lead and define strategy approach and deliverables for projects
  • Manage and mentor Strategy team, project staffing, issues, and deliverables
  • Write and structure arguments for variety of audiences (presentations, proposals, reports, copy)
  • Collaborate closely with team leads and teams, shepherding project direction and deliverables
  • Move fluidly between cultural and commercial work, providing knowledge sharing and thought leadership on cultural, industry trends, and best practices

We’re looking for a Strategy Director with outstanding experience that includes:

  • A four year college degree and 8-10 years of experience in account, brand, engagement, creative strategy, in an advertising or consulting context
  • Expertise in qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
  • Extreme rigor to nuances of verbal and visual communication for client and internal deliverables
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop people, provide feedback and manage performance
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills
  • Deep understanding of visual culture, technology, cultural trends, architecture, and related fields
  • A reputation for being exceptionally insightful, enterprising, articulate and convincing
  • Utmost level of professionalism, discretion, and appropriateness

Designer / Interactive

We have an immediate opening for a designer on our interactive team. The studio is a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, with clients ranging from boutique cultural institutions to global brands. Typical interactive projects include elements of strategy, experience design, spatial thinking, visual design, branding, content, prototyping in code, and implementation oversight. We are seeking exceptional candidates to think and work at the highest level of quality across all of those disciplines

Responsibilities:

  • Work with creative director and project team to develop innovative strategies and concepts
  • Develop flexible and creative design solutions
  • Work with team to create compelling client-facing presentations of design work
  • Assist in design development through production and project documentation
  • Realize projects with both the highest level of creativity and respect for client’s needs, schedule and budget

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional portfolio of relevant work
  • Strong communication skills
  • Special consideration will be given to candidates who show a combined strength in visual design and coding
  • Typical candidates will have 1-3 years of professional experience and a graduate degree in graphic design or a related field, but we welcome applicants with unconventional backgrounds

Senior Designer / Branding

We have an immediate opening for a senior graphic designer on our Branding Team. On any given project, senior designers will work with a creative director and project team to strategize, conceive, create, and present ideas. Clients range from fashion brands to museums and cultural institutions. Applicant has the ability to work in a highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary, fast-paced environment, and present high quality design executions.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage projects from initiation to completion, leading design through conceptualization, execution, and production
  • Work with creative director and project team to strategize projects
  • Realize projects with the highest level of creativity and respect for client’s needs, schedule and budget
  • Communicate effectively with clients

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional design experience

We have an immediate opening for a graphic designer on our Environments Team. Environments operates at the intersection of graphic design, architecture, and experience design. On any given project, senior designers will work with a creative director and project team to strategize, conceive, create, and present ideas. Work ranges from environmental design for museums to large-scale architecture initiatives for cultural and commercial clients. Projects typically include experiential and wayfinding aspects, and have a technological component. Applicant has the ability to adapt easily in a highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary, fast-paced environment, and present high quality design executions.

Responsibilities:

  • Conceive of projects and manage execution, prototyping, and production from start to finish
  • Work with creative director and project team to strategize projects
  • Realize projects with the highest level of creativity and respect for client’s needs, schedule and budget
  • Communicate effectively with clients

Qualifications:

Successful applicants are expected to commit to a three-month internship with the possibility to extend to six months. The internship is full-time and is a paid position.

  • Support and sketching during design conceptualization and materials research
  • Drafting and digital modeling during concept development and for documentation purposes
  • Presentation-level physical model making
  • Communicate effectively with vendors and suppliers
  • Administrative and organizational tasks

Qualifications:

  • A creative portfolio that demonstrates a strong design sensibility, conceptual clarity, and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Rhino, AutoCAD, and Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign)
  • Excellent physical modeling craftsmanship

Successful applicants are expected to commit to a three-month internship, with the possibility to extend to six months. The internship is full-time and is a paid position.

Responsibilities:

  • Support Strategy team on research, ideation, writing, and presentation design
  • Collaborate with teams in the studio (writing, research, brainstorming) on a project basis
  • Conduct research and writing as needed for new business pitches and ongoing research

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interest in design, culture, and business
  • Extreme fluency in visual culture, digital and social media
  • Strong writing and editing skills, can write for variety of audiences (presentations, proposals, copy)
  • Experience with secondary and qualitative research
  • Experience with design research methodologies a plus
  • Previous experience or knowledge of design disciplines (graphic design, architecture, etc) a plus
  • Previous experience in marketing/advertising/design or consultancy setting, BA/BS degree
