We have an opening for a director on 2x4’s Strategy team, to start by first quarter 2027. The strategy director at 2x4 is a leader responsible for overseeing large-scale platforms and agendas for global and national brands. The role requires experience across creative disciplines and client types, demanding strategic and creative facility, and insightful, responsive client engagement. In collaboration with the executive director, the strategy director is responsible not only for team building and mentorship, but driving the discipline within the studio, pushing 2x4 to become a more influential client partner through quality of ideas, precision, and creativity.

Responsibilities:

  • Studio leadership: Active presence and leadership in studio conversations, activities, and culture; supports new business initiatives, the promotion of strategic offerings, and the development of studio-wide tools and processes; manages group-specific studio contributions
  • Group + project team management: Supports the studio in resourcing, mentorship, and strategic skill-building and innovation; articulates project scopes of work and phasing; supports team development and talent acquisition
  • Creative: Working closely with partners and creative directors, contributes to and manages projects from start to finish, with originality, visual and verbal acuity, and enthusiasm; stays up-to-date with culture and brands
  • Strategic implementation: Leads with purpose and intention, always aware of project briefs, client needs, deliverable specifications, design standards, and strategic ambitions; proactively anticipates project and/or deliverable needs; works across disciplines, both familiar and new
  • Technical execution: Plans, collects, and presents research related to specific projects and clients with thoughtfulness, rigor, originality, and attention to detail; follows 2x4 strategy methodology, and innovates project-specific tools
  • Collaboration: Contributes thoughtfully to debates and discussion; shows initiative, discipline, leadership, and respect working with others
  • Client engagement: Leads interviews, presentations, and workshops with clients, working toward consensus building and representing the studio with the highest level of discretion and professionalism
  • Mentorship: Supports, directs, and critiques junior colleagues, including interns and associate strategists, guiding their development and helping them feel at ease and connected at 2x4

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 10+ years of relevant work and industry exposure, luxury experience preferred; demonstrated record of work that drives change and shapes organizations
  • Education: BA and/or MA/MFA/MBA
  • Brand expertise: Deep understanding of the role of design and brand, visual culture, technology and cultural trends
  • Technical skills: Ease and efficiency directing and synthesizing both quantitative and qualitative research; ability to effectively and creatively leverage inputs to create actionable, strategic platforms; extreme attention to detail; command of presentation- making tools, including Figma, Google Slides, InDesign, Keynote, PPT, as well as Word, Excel, etc.
  • Communication skills: Strong and persuasive writing and presentation skills, with ability to vividly express ideas and voice across a range of editorial styles and outputs; a keen ability to communicate visually, and iterate on foundational ideas, and share with executives and senior clients
  • Professional skills: Highest level of professionalism, executive experience, presentation, consensus and trust-building skills; ability to relay both administrative and creative details with precision and efficiency; experience mentoring, leading, and developing people, providing feedback, and collaborating with camaraderie, compassion, and rigor

The salary range for this position is $125,000 to $140,000, depending on experience.
