ACS Children’s Center

The New York City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) children’s center in Kips Bay is a transitional space, housing infants and young children for short stays during times of family upheaval. 2x4 worked with the organization to refresh the center’s interior.

Our redesign sought to create an environment that’s both comforting and creative, starting with a whimsical wallpaper mural by illustrator Christoph Niemann. In an adjoining hallway, an ever-changing “gallery” features children’s work. A light but subdued color scheme aims to soothe, and the easy-to-clean linoleum floor, along with new tables, chairs, bedding, and toys, combine to make a safe, fun, and functional living space.
