Theaster Gates “True Value” at the Fondazione Prada

Theaster Gates debuted his exhibition “True Value” at the Fondazione Prada in 2016. The show prominently featured its eponymous installation, for which Gates transported the entire contents of a hardware store and reassembled it in the Fondazione, using the shifting frameworks as a means of conversation around the various socio-economic and cultural networks of the hardware store.

For the installation, we designed a circular intended to reference the setting, complete with silhouettes of tools and other hardware store equipment. This design inspired our creation of a graphic wall for the show, comprised of wall cutouts in the same silhouetted patterns.
