David Geffen Hall is the home of the New York Philharmonic at Lincoln Center. To accompany a renovated theater by Diamond Schmitt Architects and expanded public spaces by Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects, 2x4 designed and implemented a visual identity for the building with a custom typeface, signage & wayfinding, and a digital media strategy.
A unique alphabet of 3D-printed letterforms with a refined palette of materials integrates messages and wayfinding into the space, while bespoke digital graphics envelop a 50 foot media wall in the Hall’s lobby between livestreams and art commissions. Interactive touchscreens encourage deeper engagement with the stories of the Hall, and a bespoke digital wall in the Sidewalk Studio at the corner of Broadway, Columbus Avenue, and 65th Street generates a dynamic conversation with the streetscape.
