Shanghai Library East is the largest single-building library in China, with an annual capacity of 4 million visitors. 2x4 Beijing designed the signage and wayfinding for the impressive cultural hub, inspired by the concept of “books guiding the way.” Signage dimensions are standardized based on book formats, while the visual expression uses vertical stripes and edge grain wood to mimic the layered pages of a book. The full modular system reflects the warmth of reading and showcases the artistic and humanistic atmosphere of the library as a public cultural building and civic landmark.
