In a merger of two icons, Harrods, the world’s most famous department store, will present Pradasphere, an exuberant, month-long exhibition that traces the diverse obsessions of Miuccia Prada from fashion and accessories to art, architecture, cinema, sports and beyond. We worked closely with the Prada team to conceptualize, curate, and design Pradasphere, from exhibition design and text, branding, packaging, print collateral, window displays, and videos for screens across the store.
“Pradasphere is a portrait of one of our generation’s most creative minds,” says Michael Rock. “The exhibition presents, through a collection of remarkable objects, the way Miuccia Prada’s vision is made manifest in everything she touches. Pradasphere demonstrates that Prada is not so much a brand in the traditional sense of the word, but one extraordinary individual’s way of thinking, way of making, and way of looking at the contemporary world.”
Located on the Fourth Floor of Harrods, the Pradasphere exhibition will follow the ever-widening ambitions of one of Italy’s most influential fashion houses, presenting a broad spectrum of historic collections, special projects, collaborations and experiments. The exhibition includes exquisite heritage items from the Prada archives; fabulous shoes and bags from the past collections; a Prada history wall that links the brand’s extracurricular projects from Fondazione Prada to America’s Cup; a screening room presenting short films from directors such as Wes Anderson, Roman Polanski and Ridley Scott; and architectural projects from Rem Koolhaas/OMA and Herzog & de Meuron.
Pradasphere comprises showcases dedicated to the central themes that have distinguished the work of Miuccia Prada, highlighting her often groundbreaking approach to fashion and the profound effect she has had on design and the definition of beauty over the course of her storied career. The showcases combine work from many collections, genres and media to illustrate the methods Prada has employed in the building of her remarkable oeuvre.
In addition to the Pradasphere exhibit, more than 40 of Harrods’ world-famous windows will be dedicated to playful installations featuring the iconic elements of the Prada brand, innovative materials, architectural elements, video installations and highlights from a capsule collection designed exclusively for Harrods. That collection will be available in a special pop-up store located on the Ground Floor. Visitors will also have the opportunity to order specially reissued ready-to-wear and accessories from Prada’s historic collections.
Pradasphere at Harrods will be open throughout May 2014 at the world-famous Knightsbridge store.
