Preserving the Brain concluded the Human Brains series at Fondazione Prada in Milan, and later at Prada Rong Zhai in Shanghai, as the fourth and final installment. Conceived and curated in collaboration with Miuccia Prada, Dr. Giancarlo Comi, and the Fondazione Prada team, the exhibition explored the latest discoveries in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases by thirteen international neuroscience institutes and universities from across the world. Devising graphic content that translated the depth of research for both expert and mass audiences, 2x4 mirrored the collaborative nature of scientific research within the space, subdividing it into individually supervised sections that converged into a common central area meant for dialogue and exchange. A spectrum of media — video presentations, technological objects and instruments, scientific documents, and visual materials — conveyed the complexity of scientific research across a diverse audience of varying expertise, necessitated by the nature of the exhibition: for its first two days, it was the centerpiece for a neuroscience convention hosted by Fondazione Prada, after which it became open to the public. Preserving the Brain was on view at Fondazione Prada from September 16th to October 10th, 2022 and at Prada Rong Zhai from March 31st to May 21st, 2023.
